A pet store owner friend of ours emailed me a few weeks ago to see if we'd like an "overly friendly cockatiel". We have been contemplating getting another bird ever since Frankie died, but we weren't really sure we wanted a third child. However, off we went two Saturday afternoons ago to check him out, to see if he really was as wonderful as our friend said he was. In short, he was. Before you knew it, we were leaving the pet store with a bird, a cage, a stand, food and accessories...not to mention 20+ years of responsibility. After some thought, we realized that when Ed is 60!!, this bird could very well still be alive and nearing retirement with us. But then again, I just
know we're gonna win the lottery any day now, and thus, Freedom 65 will become a non-issue! (A girl can dream, no?)
He's still a baby (roughly the same age as Alex, give or take a month...), and like Frankie, we aren't sure if this bird is a male or female (although we think it's a male), so we felt we needed another gender neutral name. A few names that made the short list: Sunny (my personal favourite), Popcorn (because he
loves popcorn!), Ham, and Jessie (are you catching the Toy Story theme?). And the winner (because we agreed that Bella could name him)...is Jessie. (She was
heartbroken at the thought of having to consider any other name.)

Feeding Jessie popcorn!

And just a few more of our 4 year old's pride-of-ownership pics. (She's so proud to be a 'pet owner', as she calls it.)
