Summer in the Capital.

Summer has hit the nation's capital! Today's temperature was something like 38C with the humidex (though I didn't actually check Environment Canada's website today.) This past long weekend was almost as warm, so I hear. (I was working and sleeping this long weekend.) Ed was able to take Bella to our friend's house for a dip in their brand new pool. She had a blast! Ed strapped a lifejacket on her and she swam around the pool for hours (even in the deep end!). And she did it all by herself! Ed was sure to capture the moments for me.





Our own pool is not open yet, and likely won't be for another week or so. (We can't wait to see the green sludge that is growing under the pool tarp!) Ed is taking the next 5 weeks off to do a huge amount of work around the house. (It figures that it's supposed to be 30+C for the rest of this week!)

First on the list, Ed will be building a brand new pool shed. The old metal shed has already been emptied and taken down. And let me tell you, I will NOT miss that piece of junk. We hope to have most of the shed up in the next week or so, at least enough of it so that we can cover the pool's electrical supply and pump so that we can open the pool and get it running.

Second on the list: Brand new windows for the house to be installed on the 31st. Yay! Can't tell you how happy we are about that.

Third on the list: Ed will be putting up new exterior insulation and vinyl siding on the house. Even though we aren't crazy about vinyl siding, it's the most cost-effective (and it suits the neighbourhood), and it means we won't have to scrape and paint the house ever, ever again!!

Having decided to do these renovations, we have also made the decision to stay in this house for likely, the next 5 years or so. The cost of the reno's sure beats the cost of a new house mortgage! We love our neighbours and our neighbourhood and so we're very happy to stay for a while longer.
