Up, up & away!

Ysabella woke up very early Thursday morning in a miserable mood. We knew right away it was an ear infection. Crap. Just what we needed, a toddler ear infection right before vacation and flying across the country. Our flight was at 745am, and there was no time to drop by a clinic before leaving so I stocked up on Ibuprofen, Benadryl and Gravol. The bulk of the flight went very, very well. I was happy to have the carseat with us, it ended up working very well for all of us. However, by about 10-1030am, despite our best efforts, Bella became a tad bit cranky (understandably). So, I thought I'd help her to fall asleep by giving her a dose of Benadryl. (I wanted to stay away from Gravol because she has never had it before and I hear reactions to this drug can vary...) On the other hand, she has had Benadryl in the past without any adverse effects so that was my drug of choice.

Thirty minutes later, can you say toddler bouncing off the walls?! My worst nightmare. (I have since read on the Benadryl bottle this disclaimer: May cause drowsiness or excitability.) Crap again. We did what we could. Thank goodness she wasn't disturbing to the other passengers (she wasn't crying), but man, was she ever fidgety! Like she was trying to crawl out of her own skin. She couldn't sit still and she couldn't get comfortable either, poor thing. What a terrible feeling, and it was all my fault. So, it was papa to the rescue walking up and down the aisle with her again and again. And was she shy? Nope, she practically said hello to every passenger on the plane. With an hour left in the flight, she finally fell asleep from sheer exhaustion.

We arrived in Victoria safe and sound. The first thing we did was take Bella to Ed's childhood family doctor who was kind enough to see us right away. (Side note; the receptionist who has known Ed for many, many years said to him "Wow!"(long pause...) "You're all grown up!". What I think she meant to say, but didn't, was: "Wow, you've really got a lot of grey hair!"harhar. But that's just my interpretation.) Diagnosis: "A really bad ear infection in both ears." No surprise. A prescription for antibiotics and she's on her way to being a happier little girl. The first two nights were a bit hellish with her crying two and one hours respectively. However, she slept much, much better last night, with no waking.

There are so many pictures to post already, I'll try to blog and keep up while here to avoid having to sift through hundreds of pictures once we're home.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful papa's out there! Father's Day pictures to follow in the next day or two. For now, airport and airplane pics.

Walking to the terminal, all by herself. No stroller needed, she wanted to pull her own luggage.

Roaming while waiting at the gate.

Checking out all the big airplanes.
Making a silly face while posing with mum for a pic.

Take off! You can hear her saying: "Too fast!" and "I want to go slowly!"And near the end of the video she says: "I want to go down!"
While landing in Victoria she said: "We're going to crash". I'm sure she meant to say: "We're going to land."

Must run now. The cruise ship's horn (the cruise ships are just a few blocks away) are signaling that they're leaving the harbour. And the horn has awoken Bella from her nap, and I don't even mind.
