Alex laughing at Alex.

It's been an exciting last few days here in our house. First, Alex is almost crawling. (More on that later...like, in a day or two later.) And, just to clarify, I want to say that I'm in no way trying to top Lee's post about Charley's VERY interesting day because, WOW! that sure is a whopper of a rash! (Poor, fella.) However, Alex has had his own, shall we say 'eventful' past few days. (We hope that Charley is feeling much, much better. xo)

Wednesday evening Ysabella saved her brother's life. And I'm not exaggerating, not even a little bit. Alex was choking and had Ysabella not been there to see it, Ed and I would have never even heard a thing. I would tell you all about the details, except the thought of it all still makes me want to cry and vomit all at the same time. Ysabella is our little hero. And we are so, SO thankful. Thankful that she knew what to do and that she immediately alerted us, thankful that he's okay, and thankful that our family is healthy.

Today, Alex and I spent almost 7 hours at CHEO. As a result of the choking episode that Alex had on Wednesday evening, I was almost certain that he was developing aspiration pneumonia. (Yes, it was that bad. You see, when we found Alex choking (on his back!!!) he was already vomiting.) He woke this morning feeling warm, and by 1130 his temp was 38.4. I normally wouldn't rush to the emergency room with a fever, but given Wednesday's circumstances, I wasn't taking any chances. By the time we got there, his fever was 39.2. Then it climbed to 40.2. At the end of the day, the medical team basically said that they aren't sure what the issue is. Chest xray was inconclusive. (And btw, have you ever seen them xray a baby??? I'll post a pic later, but wow! it was like a scene out of Silence of The Lambs. No kidding! They put them in such a crazy looking contraption!) In the end, it could be a virus. Who knows. We will have to wait and watch and see.

Despite the around the clock Advil and Tylenol he is still quite listless and intermittently febrile. He's feeling all around pretty yucky. There was one moment at CHEO when I videoed him because he seemed to be in an almost delirious state of mind. He was laughing so hard at me smelling his feet as I pretended they stunk. I kept doing it because it was so good to see him laugh and smile, even though he still looked so, so sick in between the laughter.

When we returned home his fever dropped down to 39.2, and with some medicine on board, he was feeling a bit better. I was showing Ed the video that I took of him at CHEO and, well, didn't he start laughing again. Imagine that. Alex laughing at the video of himself laughing. It was hilarious.

I couldn't resist.

I'm off to check on him, fever was back up to 40.2 a bit earlier. I have a feeling it's going to be a long, long night.
