Happy Family Day!

Although it isn't a holiday for the Feds, the whole province celebrated Family Day today. It was also -27 C with the wind chill, and yes, in case you're wondering, it felt just like it was -27 C. Brrrr. It's too bad it was so cold because there were so many outdoor activities planned around the city. I'm sure only the bravest (or the craziest) spent any extended time outdoors on a day like today. Our neighbourhood community association held their First Annual Winter Carnival in the park directly behind our house. Ed had to work, so I (for once!) braved the extreme cold, and went it alone with the kiddies. There was a hockey skills competition on the ice rink, a toboggan-pull race, a best chili contest, snow taffy, games for all ages, and a horse-drawn sleigh. It may have been sunny, but it was freezing, yet there was still a really good turn-out of people.

We only spent about an hour outside, but that was more than enough. Enough for some fresh air, some exercise, a few minutes of play, and a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Enough that we developed rosy cheeks that stung when we returned home, and enough that we earned ourselves a hot chocolate with extra marshmallows. Even though Alex was bundled up (and then he was wrapped some more), I was still afraid he'd end up a popsicle.
