Where-o-where has my little Bella gone?

Last Friday, Ed was called to pick up Ysabella from the daycare. (I was at work, and was unable to leave.) She had a fever (her first ever) of 40C! Poor thing. The fever continued for about 36 hours and she was in need of Advil every 4-6 hours around the clock. (She responded well to it and her fever broke each time we gave it to her.) She slept in our bed for the first night ever, and she wasn't feeling herself, dare I say she was even delirious when the fever ensued. We figured she must have been fighting the same viral illness that Ed and I were trying to beat the past 2 weeks, the same bad cold that everyone in Ottawa is battling/talking about. You know, sore throat, followed by a slight cough and case of the sniffles, followed by another sore throat...and another sore throat (you get the picture).

She was better by Monday, or so I thought. But by Tuesday, I had to take her to see the doctor. Once in the office I handed her over to Dr. Brigham and I believe my exact words were: "Please tell me there is something wrong with my daughter that will explain why she's acting this way!" (Outright refusal of food that led to outrage, constant combativeness, non-stop whining, fighting and screaming at bedtime before falling asleep, frequent waking during the night, the list could go on and on.) Somehow, someway, Ysabella cooperated amazingly at the appointment, letting the doctor look in her ears, 'squeezing' the thermometer under her arms, and even saying "Ahhhh" as the doctor examined her throat. The diagnosis: A raging ear infection and swollen neck glands (probably a sore throat too). All this and she never once pulled or tugged at her ears, had a runny nose, or a case of the sniffles. Such a terrible nurse I am! Oh, the guilt!

She's been taking her three times daily antibiotics (her first taste of them) like a champ, never once fighting me. And she's pretty much back to her old strong-willed, argumentative, independent self. But at least she's happy now. And going to bed without a peep and most importantly, sleeping through the whole night again.

No fever pictures, but here are some shots from some happier times during the past week and a half.

Feeling better, eating a yummy oreo cookie (while laying down...taadaaa!)

The expression on her face here really reminds me of her cousin Savannah!

Who said Ysabella was all girl? She loves all kinds of trucks, especially dump trucks, tractors, construction vehicles and cranes. Here she is driving the Tonka trunk at the mall today. It was painful trying to get her off of it after about 25 minutes (and that's without having put coins in it either!) Can you say meltdown in the mall?
