RIP Frankie.

It was a terrible weekend. I'm sad to report that we've lost a family member. Ed came home from work this past Friday and realized the house was a bit quietier than usual, and found Frankie at the bottom of her cage. She had been sick for some time, and we knew our days left with our feathered friend were numbered. The vet said there was nothing we could do. (I took Frankie to see him just after Bella was born, and he thought it was a longterm/chronic condition that developed slowly over time which caused her to loose so much weight that she was unable to fly well or keep warm, and caused her to tire easily/sleep longer than usual.) That being said, it doesn't make the experience any easier. I know she was just a bird, but it was our bird, our family pet. As you all know, she was a very special, smart, and loving bird, and we have been very sad these past few days. Ed told Ysabella that Frankie flew away, and she said, "Yeah, Frankie flew away into the clouds". She was almost six years old.

So, a tribute to Frankie.

December 2004: 9 mos old and so young and healthy!

Snuggling with Ed, her favourite thing to do in the evenings.

2005:
Jade, the meanest pitbull you ever saw (NOT!) and Frankie.

Awww. Look at how little Jacob was! Every child loved this bird because she was so friendly.

2005:
When I had lots of free time (ie; before becoming a mother), I made this play structure for Frankie.

HELLO!

The family before Bella (and Bob) came along: Ed's birthday, 2006.

Look at how little Phoenix is in this pic!

The beginning of the end (little did we know...) 'Bob The Torturer'. Christmas 2006.

Bella is born! Frankie checking out the new little person on Feb. 3rd, 2007.

Giving me kisses, tickling my eyebrows, seeing if I'm eating anything.

July 2007: Friends.

September 2007:

November 2007: More kisses and playtime.

Bella reaching out for her friend.

August 2008: Sharing a meal. (Just today Bella put food on the table and said: "It's for Frankie!" So sad. Bella was always sharing her crumbs with her. Today, she kept insisting Frankie was "in her cage", even though the cage is nowhere in sight. :(

A bit of a long tribute, but oh well. We miss her.
RIP Frankie.

  2. Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for the info. She's actually sleeping WAY better (at least for the past 3 nights - I'm trying not to get my hopes up!). I have that book, but have been too tired to read it or understand it - it's kinda scientific. I'll give it another go. Thanks for the comment - I'm a total lurker on your blog too and can't believe we've never met! And I had a tear in my eye about Frankie... that's so so so sad. oxSarah
